On July 23rd, 2010 Sri. S.K.Harihareswara passed away due to a massive heart attack at his residence in Mysore. He was 74 and has left his wife Smt. Nagalakshmi Harihareswara and two daughters Sumana and Nandini behind.
Hari, as he was called by his dear friends in Northern California, where he lived for a number of years before returning to Mysore, has touched the lives of many many friends and well wishers there.
This forum intends to share their experiences and memories as a mark of respect to the great scholar.

ಈ ಗುರು ಪೂರ್ಣಿಮೆಯ ದಿನ, ನನ್ನ ಪೂಜ್ಯ ಗುರು, ಆತ್ಮೀಯ ಸ್ನೇಹಿತರು ಮತ್ತು ಬರೆಯಲು ಹುರುಪು ಕೊಟ್ಟು ಪ್ರೋತ್ಶಾಹಿಸಿ ಹುರಿದುಂಬಿಸಿ, ತಿದ್ದಿ ಬರೆಸಿದ ನನ್ನ ಸೋದರ ಸಮಾನರಾದ ಹರಿಹರೇಶ್ವರ ಅವರಿಗೆ ಅವರು ಎಲ್ಲಿದ್ದರೂ ಇಲ್ಲಿಂದಲೇ ನನ್ನ ನಮನ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಅವರು ತೀರಿ ಹೋಗಲು ಒಂದು ವಾರದ ಮೊದಲು ಮೈಸೂರಿನಿಂದ ಕರೆದರು. ಇದೇ ಬರುವ ಅಕ್ಕ ಸಮ್ಮೇಳನದಂದು ನನ್ನ ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಬಿಡುಗಡೆ ಮಾಡೋಣವೆಂದು ಹಾರೈಸುತ್ತಿದ್ದರು. ಮುನ್ನುಡಿ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತೇನೆಂದಿದ್ದರು. ಈಗ ಅವರು ಇಲ್ಲ. ಆ ದುಃಖ ಹೇಳಲಸಾಧ್ಯ. ಅವರ ನೆನಪಿನ ಅರ್ಪಣೆಗಾಗಿ ಆದಶ್ಃಟು ಬೇಗ ನನ್ನ ಪುಸ್ತಕವನ್ನು ಹೊರತರಬೇಕೆಂದು ನನ್ನ ಆಸೆ. ಅವರಿಗೆ ನಾನು ಎಂದೂ ಚಿರಋಣಿ. ಅವರು ಸಾಯುವ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅದನ್ನೇ ಬರೆಯುತ್ತಿದ್ದೆ. ಆಗಲೆ ಅವರು ತೀರಿಹೋದ ಸುದ್ದಿ ಬಂತು. ಅವರ ಆತ್ಮಕ್ಕೆ ಶಾಂತಿ ಸಿಗಲಿ, ನಾಗಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಿಯವರಿಗೆ ಹರಿಯವರ ಅಗಲಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ತಡೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳುವ ಶಕ್ತಿ ಬರಲೆಂದು ಹಾರೈಸುತ್ತೇನೆ.

After I wrote my very first short story & got it published in "Swarnasetu",Hari called up to congratulate & encouraged me to keep writing.Even after he moved back to Mysore,he would call me whenever he came to the bay area & kept reminding me to write.I liked him for his simplicity & kindness.May his soul rest in peace.

ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ, ಕನ್ನಡ ಎರಡರಲ್ಲೂ ಬಹಳ ವಿದ್ವಾಂಸರಾದ ಹರಿ ಅವರು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತದಿಂದ ಹಲವಾರು ಉತ್ತಮ ಅನುವಾದಗಳನ್ನೂ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದಾರೆ - ಉದಾಹರಣೆಗೆ ಈ ಕೊಂಡಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಿಮಗೆ ಕಾಣಸಿಗುವ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀ ಸ್ತುತಿಗಳನ್ನು ನೋಡಬಹುದು.
ನಾನು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತದಿಂದ ಕನ್ನಡಕ್ಕೆ ಅನುವಾದಗಳನ್ನು ಮಾಡಲು, ಒಂದು ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಸುತ್ತಿ-ಬಳಸಿ ಅವರೂ ಒಬ್ಬ ಪ್ರೇರೇಪಣೆ ಅಂದರೂ ಸರಿಯೇ!
ಹರಿಯವರ ನೆನಪಿನಲ್ಲಿ, ಅವರ ಹೆಸರನ್ನೂ (**ಹರಿಹರ) ಒಳಗೊಂಡಿರುವ, ಅವರು ತಮ್ಮ ಸಾಹಿತ್ಯ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳಿಂದ ಜೀವನವೆಲ್ಲ ಆರಾಧಿಸಿದ್ದ ಸರಸ್ವತಿಯ ಧ್ಯಾನ ಶ್ಲೋಕವೇ ನನ್ನ ನುಡಿನಮನವಾಗಬಹುದು ಎನ್ನಿಸಿದ್ದರಿಂದ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಕುತ್ತಿದ್ದೇನೆ.
ಮೈಯ ಬಣ್ಣ ಮಂಜುಮಲ್ಲಿಗೆಚಂದಿರರ ಬಿಳುಪು; ಬಿಳಿಯರಿವೆಯನುಟ್ಟು

Hari was a role model for all of us in terms of simplicity, selflessness and passion for kannada. He was a tireless worker for Kannada cause and always wanted to do some useful to society than to himself or his family. And Nagalaxmi was the a daily dose of multivitamin for his energy. She was more like a close friend to him than his wife providing unconditional support to his passion. He also walked the talk. More importantly couple were funding so many children in Mysore for their education. And even in his death he wanted to be of some use to society and he did so by donating the body to the hospital students. !!! What a role model. This will surely make all of us to change our attitude and will evoke our desire to do something good through thick layers of our daily comforts..
Seriously we miss him and his enthusiasm.. May god give Nagalaxmi and children enough strength and courage to move on.

ಮನದುಂಬಿ ಹರಸಿದೊಡದುವೆ
ಎನಿತೋ ತಾಯ್ನುಡಿಗೆ ಸೇವೆ ಸಲ್ಲಿಸಿದಂತೇ || 1 ||
ಕಲಿಯುವರಿಗೆಲ್ಲ ಸುಲಬದ
ಕಲೆಯಾಲೆಮನೆಯು ನವೀನ ಅಂತರ್ಜಾಲಾ
ಹಲವಂಕಣ ಅನಿಸಿಕೆ ಕವನ
ಕಾಲದ ರಸಿಕರಭಿಲಾಷೆಯನು ತಿಳಿಸುವುವೂ || 2 ||

So crazy--I do not know why, Sumana and Nandini, but I went looking for your mother's name tonight and found this page. In fact, my cousin and I were just talking about you guys last week. No joke. We were fondly remembering your mother's potato sandwiches and working for your dad. Our job was to fold up the Amerikannada issues and get them ready to mail. I remember him telling us to "fold them in such a way" as to have the bottom edge line up with a certain line of text. He was very meticulous about everything. Both of your parents impressed me as very kind and gentle people. They would always feed us before we began working. Anyway, in case it is hard to remember, I had a twin sister and we were in the 7th grade at the time. Our mother was Kaylene and she was very fond of your family as well. She passed away last October. Rana
